SHIPHANDLING & ECDIS

The participants will use the full-mission Bridge simulator and the VR (Virtual Reality) Bridge to enhance their understanding of the effects and the behavior of the ship in wind, current, shallow waters, condition of loading etc as per STCW and OCIMF SIRE 2.0.

Safe Shiphandling is not only about technical skills, but also non-technical skills i.e. Bridge Resource Management. There are many ship handling incidents that occur with very experienced and competent Captains and the reason for these incidents is most often not due to technical competence, but that the resources available are not used in an optimal way (non-technical skills). The courses include training and understanding of both the technical and non-technical skills as this is a vital part for a safe and pro-active manoeuvring.
